LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:

  • Charlotte at the Nuclear Waste Crossroads

  • On May 23, 2005, CAGP member Brian Staten proposed a draft resolution to the Charlotte City Council for consideration. The resolution, endorsed by the CAGP, is intended to involve the city of Charlotte in the critical task of dealing with the real threat of global warming. The Green Party believes local initiatives such as this one are very important to affect any real environmental or political change. Individual citizens and local governmnets must take responsibility for global conditions, especially under the current U.S. administration which has chosen to scoff at the scientific prediction of major climate change. • There is a 15-county clean-air coalition in the Charlotte area that aims to clean up the air we breathe. The CAGP is a members of the Carolinas Clean Air Coalition which is leading the fight against Duke Energy's proposed coal-fired plant at Cliffside - just 50 miles west of Charlotte.
